Now that school is up and running, what better way to kick off the year than a dance to celebrate; and that’s exactly what Frazier Mountain High School did! Friday, September 16th not only saw the first home football game, but also a night of lights, loud music, and a farewell to summer theme. This was the Aloha Dance.

Walking into the school, students were greeted with music, laughter, and excited faces. The cafetorium was decorated with leis and strands of flowers, and the tables had candle jars with flowers wrapped around them. Inside near the stage, the whole room was dark except for the bright lights of the DJ, which turned on and off in time with the music. Students could be seen hanging with friends, sitting at the tables, or having a good time out on the dance floor.

This dance was a not only a fun event for students, but also a fundraiser for the Academy. Run by Academy officers Fatima Echeverria and Rachel Hallmark, this dance was a huge success! The Academy reached their goal of selling 100 tickets—they sold 112—and ended up raising over $500 dollars which will go towards student activities and supplies for the Academy program.

Rachel said that she “was very happy with how the dance turned out.” Her tip to anyone hosting a future dance is to “advertise as much as possible.” When asked if she would do anything differently if she hosted another dance she said, “It’s always good to sell more tickets, but overall I think the dance turned out well.”

Overall it was a good night for everyone; students got to dance and have a good time, and the Academy got the successful dance that they had been working on for months. Hopefully the next dance at Homecoming will be just as successful!
