We sent Cross Country Coach Christy Zimmerman several interview questions via email this week, about the meet:
FB (the Falcon Beat):
How long have you been a runner?
Have you had any previous coaching experience?
How did you feel your team did at this meet?
When did you move up to the area?
She wrote us a letter in response:
CZ (Christy Zimmerman): I have been a runner since I met my husband when I was 21 years old. I ran competitively under Coach Doug Todd at Mt. San Antonio College and was team captain of the historical [1995/1996 State Championship team]. When my two years of eligibility were finished, I had the honor of continuing on as an assistant coach to Coach Todd. I went on to start the cross country team at my previous school: SCVI high school in Castaic.
My family and I moved up to Lebec last June and I continued to work at SCVI until the beginning of this school year when I started teaching at El Tejon Middle school and coaching at FMHS.
This week we had a dual meet at California City and I saw a lot of growth and steady progression from all my [runners]. The Cal City course is a flat, fast course which loops onto itself three times, so it gave me the opportunity to use the race as an opportunity to help fine tune my runners' strides and form. They are all looking much stronger and performing at even higher levels each time they step up to the line.
FB: Thank you coach for answering our questions, have a wonderful cross country season!
