This month the Falcon Beat’s Sophomore Student of the Month is Joy Gonzalez. Joy is someone her friends can always go to when they’re down. We had the opportunity to speak with her and got some of our questions answered.

Falcon Beat (FB): So Joy, thank you for speaking with us today, we just have a few questions for you if that’s ok?

Joy Gonzalez (JG): Absolutely!

FB: Awesome, so even though it’s early, how are you liking your sophomore year so far?

JG: My sophomore year has been amazing so far, I can’t wait to see what happens the rest of the year! I absolutely love my Academy teachers Mr. Domke, Mrs. Chapman, and Miss White. I don’t think I could have asked for any better teachers. They are so good at teaching that I don’t hate going to school, I actually look forward to it everyday!

FB: Wow Joy, that’s fantastic! Do you have any hobbies you would like to share with us?

JG: I love volunteering. Currently I’m volunteering at Fort Tejon Ranch. I also like to volunteer here on the mountain whenever someone says they need help; I always love coming to the rescue. Apart from my volunteer work, I love playing sports and going to Dodger games during baseball season.

FB: Way to go Joy! Which sports teams do you root for?

JG: In baseball I root for the Dodgers of course, but I also love watching USC play for college football.

FB: Do you have anyone in your life that has proven to be a great inspiration to you?

JG: My grandma is my greatest inspiration. She has taught me that even through tough times I still have to look on the bright side of things. She really is the reason I’m always smiling; she’s my whole heart. I also look up to my friends Raegan Thompson, Brittany Wolfe, and Hayli Richardson. Whenever I need help with writing or doing well in a sport I always turn to them. Raegan, in my eyes, is the best athlete ever, Brittany is the best person to go to when my heart is broken and my grandma is too far to talk to, and Hayli always puts a smile on my face and makes me laugh.

FB: Do you have any advice for this year’s freshman; just some survival tips maybe?

JG: Don’t talk when the teacher is talking; no one likes when you’re told to stop and just continue to do it. Also keep up with your work and try to do the best you can!

FB: Thank you for your time Joy, we hope you have an amazing Sophomore year!
