On October 12th, 2016 the Academy Sophomore class took their very first field trip to the Santa Barbara colleges. On the way, they got to see the beautiful California ocean and hazy weather. While getting off the bus for our first tour we noticed the college students studying in groups on the grass. While walking through the crowds we finally got to sit down and meet the college’s tour guide, Lulu, who was in her last year at the community college.
Lulu came up to the students and the teachers, Mr. Domke and Ms. White. She started to show exactly what the school provides to their students. While walking through the campus we all began to ask questions about the sports teams (mainly football), public speaking, the science options presented there, etc. The Sophomores even got a sneak peek on the cooking and preparation class.
After the tour, we sat down and had lunch at the college. Some people even realized that they adore the quality the college holds so that they might even go to it when the time comes. It is also attractive to people who love cooking as they can take classes and will even be the students serving and cooking the meals they eat. After lunch students took their last photos and they were off to college number two.
While driving to the next college they soon noticed that there were a lot of bikes, more than any of them had ever seen. Since this school was bigger than the previous school, their students needed a faster way to get to class, as the campus was rather large and time was short. Soon we realized that Mr. Domke and Ms. White were going to be our tour guides. Both went through much detail of the area and would answer questions given to them. This included the housing and the soccer fields. While walking around, most of the Sophomores wished they also had a bike to ride around the campus so they could get the full experience. Once we finished our second tour, we got into the school without the traffic rush (with bikes that is). Nevertheless, after looking at the positives to this school, we got in a traffic rush on the way back, which meant that the classes were being dismissed so we went through the walkway five at a time. Slowly, but surely, we all made it to the other side of the street and to the bus. After an amazing first trip most of the students planned to attend college after high school for the future education, experience, food, new friends, and memories they will make. This was definitely a great way to get the students to see why they should attend college also a great way to start there academy year.
