This month’s student athlete is Carissa Rivette. She is a three-sport athlete, but her favorite sport is volleyball. You may have seen her before, standing out in her white libero jersey. Speaking of libero, Carissa was the High Desert League’s MVP, along with a girl from Cal City. Here is some insight on Carissa’s volleyball experience.

What is your favorite sport to play and why?

My favorite sport to play is volleyball because it is the sport I am most comfortable playing, and never get tired of the game. I love the intense rallies, and the feeling after picking up the hits of a good team.

Do you plan on playing volleyball in college?

I am interested in playing college volleyball at either California Baptist University, Point Loma, or Master's University after graduating high school.

How do you work with your teammates during any sport?

A team must have a tight relationship in order play successfully together, and I feel so privileged to have gotten to know the girls on my team so well. I try to motivate my teammates to play their best, and push them to get better everyday.

What is your biggest accomplishment in your sports?

My biggest accomplishments consist of being awarded MVP All League in volleyball my Junior and Senior year, and winning CIF two years in a row with my team in volleyball and soccer, and making it to State Regional Playoffs.

What is the best advice you’ve ever given?

The best advice that really stuck out to me was that if you want it enough and are willing to work for it, you can reach any goal.

How do you set your goals?

I always have an ultimate goal, but create small goals regularly in order to reach that goal. My ultimate goal almost always seems unreachable, but by keeping my standards high outcomes in accomplishing much more than what was originally expected. By keeping my ultimate goal in mind, it reminds me to stay both focused and motivated on what I really want to gain or accomplish.

Thank you for your time Carissa.

You can catch this talented young athlete at any future Varsity soccer and softball game this year.
