Homecoming 2016 was a huge blast Friday, October 21. To kick off this year’s Homecoming game, several of our school’s groups including FFA, Law Enforcement, as well as each ASB class, creatively decorated a float which circulated the football field. The Falcons initially came out strong and were determined to defeat the Buffaloes. They held a solid lead for the first quarter, however, as it has turned out, the other team may have pushed a little bit harder at practice because they ended up with a lead against us for the remainder of the game. While we unfortunately did not lock down the win in the end, it was definitely a dog fight which made it that much more exciting for the spectators to experience.
During half time, our FMHS cheer squad treated us to a pretty impressive cheer routine. Soon after, Senior Night began and each and every football player and cheerleader on the team was called out personally, along with their families, and they proudly strolled across the field to be recognized by everyone. We found out who their biggest inspiration was, their favorite quote, what their favorite memory was throughout the season, and even their exciting plans after high school.

Now came the moment the entire student body was anticipating: Homecoming Court announcements. The nominees for Homecoming Queen were: Brianna Edwards, Ashlyn Abell, Zoe Tiberi, and Jasmine Llanos. The nominees for Homecoming King included: Dallas Matthew, John Masud, Michael Stearnes, and Alex Rojas. Before the big reveal, each nominee was introduced and we learned a few pieces of cool information about each of them. When it was all said and done, the couple crowned 2016 Homecoming King and Queen was Brianna Edwards and Dallas Matthew! All at once, everyone in the stands stood up, roaring with excitement, and together they rode in the back of a convertible several times around the football field, smiling wide and enjoying their time in the spotlight.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to see the rest of the game, however I spoke to Joey Hines and he filled me in on how the rest of the game played out. He said, “Our defense was strong at the beginning, but we lost our momentum after halftime.” While it would’ve been exciting to win, the experience was enough to make a lasting memory for everyone.
