Last Friday, October 21st, was Frazier Mountain High School’s Homecoming! After a long day filled with a rally, parade, and football game, the Falcons headed to the gym to dance until they dropped. The theme was Coachella and the dance itself was wild and fun.

Imagine walking through the doors and into the gym. It is pitch black with flashing lights and blasting music. Everywhere you look people are dancing, and you can barely make out the individual faces of the other students. All you know is that the music is good and you immediately join your friends in a dancing circle. This was the atmosphere of the Homecoming dance.

The gym itself was decorated with glow sticks and mason jar decorations. Streamers led the way to the doors and covered the walls. Inside the DJ had a setup with speakers, lights of different colors and shapes, and his stand where students could request music. There was not only a dance floor laid out, but also an area with tables to sit down and take a break at. Food was available for sale including pizza, drinks, and chips as a fundraiser for the junior ASB class.

The dance itself was a fundraiser for the senior ASB class. I asked senior ASB president Aubrey Domke about how she thought the dance went: “I thought it was successful. It actually turned out better than I thought. I think we got around 170 people to buy tickets (this is a lot compared to the average ticket sales of our dances), and I’d say we raised around $1,000 dollars. When asked about any advice she would give to people hosting dances in the future, she told me, “Making sure you have a lot of people to help with the set-up is important, because it takes more people and time than you’d think.”

Overall, the dance was the embodiment of the Homecoming spirit. Senior Hope Shorrock commented this about her last senior Homecoming dance: “It was fun, and the only dance I have actually enjoyed. My favorite part was hanging with my friends, and it was just a great end to a great day.” It was a great end to a great day indeed.
