FMHS chose Matthew Regan for February’s Alumni of the Month! He went to Frazier Mountain all 4 years of high school. He is currently 19 years old, lives in Frazier Park, works at the Falcon’s Nest and is enrolled in College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita. All throughout high school he enjoyed football and baseball, and still enjoys anything sports related to this day. We asked Matt a few more questions, and here’s what he had to say.

FB (Falcon Beat): What year did you graduate FMHS?

MR (Matt Regan): 2015

FB: What did you pursue after high school?

MR: I pursued the opportunity to play football at the collegiate level, while also gaining a higher level education with hopes of transferring.

FB: How is college different than high school, and what are the pros and cons of college?

MR: In college you have to be a lot more independent. You don’t have people telling you what classes you have to take anymore; you have to figure out on your own what you’re trying to accomplish. The pros are it’s a whole new environment, you get to make new friends, experience new things, and grow as a person in society. There aren’t many cons to going to college other than that there are going to be some stressful times that you’ll have to deal with.

FB: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

MR: 10 years is a long way away, but I’m hopeful that at that point in life I will somehow be involved in the field of Law Enforcement.

FB: What were your favorite activities in high school?

MR: Football and baseball. I played both sports all 4 years of high school and made so many memories I can’t even count them.

FB: How did sports impact your high school days?

MR: They helped me create bonds with friends, and memories that will last a lifetime.

FB: What is your favorite sports memory?

MR: My sophomore year playing varsity football and scoring my first touchdown and having the whole sideline yelling “that’s a sophomore!”

FB: Who was your favorite teacher, and how did they inspire you?

MR: Mr. Domke and Mrs. Heasley. They both challenged me to be the best that I could be, and to really unlock my potential. The tools they both provided me with I use daily as a college student, and I can’t thank them enough for all they did for me.

FB: How did going to a small school positively impact your future?

MR: It made it so I could build relationships. Not only with other students, but with the teachers. I always felt like there was someone who had my back if I ever needed anything.

FB: What advice do you have for 2017’s graduating seniors?

MR: Enjoy your senior year. It goes by fast and there are a lot of fun activities. But also get prepared because it gets harder after high school, whether it’s the workforce, or college. You will be challenged.

FB: What is one thing from FMHS that will stick with you forever?

MR: The countless memories I made with all my friends, and all the skills for life that I learned from those teachers who I now consider my friends.

Thank you so much Matt for your time, FMHS wishes you the best in everything.
