March's Student Athlete of the Month: Elliana Shillig!

This month’s student athlete of the month is Elliana Shillig, a senior at Frazier Mountain High School. Elliana is a well known three sport athlete, leading Varsity volleyball to championship games two years in a row as a captain. Elliana currently plays on the Varsity softball team, and is an outstanding shortstop. She has played softball for four years in high school. She does not plan to continue her softball career, but loves the sport and all parts of the game. Elliana is going to attend Brigham Young University in Utah, which is a wonderful achievement.

Falcon Beat (FB): You are a three sport athlete. Which is your favorite to play?

Elliana Shillig (ES): My favorite sport to play is softball; it involves so many different avenues of play. It also keeps me on my toes at all times, and helps my reaction time improve immensely.

(FB) What makes this sport so special to you?

(ES) This sport is special to me because I enjoy playing it and always have. It's something I can play every position and enjoy what I'm doing.

(FB) What do you think is the most challenging part of softball?

(ES) Defense! Playing on the field involves a lot of thinking, knowing where you're going to throw or play the ball is always a split second decision.

(FB) What is advice to anyone who wishes to succeed in any sport?

(ES) Work hard, be able to laugh and not get down on yourself. Probably just have a Carissa to pick you up when you're down.

(FB) What is your favorite memory in softball?

(ES) Getting my foot stuck in the fence and still trying to make the play. Or when Micky kicked the ball trying to pick it up.

(FB) What will you miss the most about your years doing sports at FMHS?

(ES) Being with people that have the same goals as me, and working with a team towards those goals.

(FB) Favorite motto or quote?

(ES) Hooray sports

do the thing

win the points.

(FB) Who you look up to the most

(ES) Anyone that's taller than 5’9.

Thank you for your time, Elliana. Good luck on the rest of the school year.
