The athlete of the month for January is Alberto Esparza. He is a Senior this year, and is currently playing the sport he has played for 11 years: soccer. He started playing because of his best friend’s influence, and also enjoys playing FIFA. Alberto has been on the FMHS Varsity soccer team for four years, but does not think he will play in college.

Falcon Beat (FB): Is there anything in particular you find special about soccer?

Alberto Esparza (AE): You learn about life playing with the ball at your feet.

FB: How long have you been playing this sport?

AE: I've been playing soccer for about 11 years now.

FB: Do you have plans for soccer after High School?

AE: I would love play for my college team but I don’t think I will have the time. I’ll probably play Sunday League futbol with my cousins (that means soccer if you don’t happen to know).

FB: How do you work with your teammates?

AE: My teammates are a second family to me. I’ve developed a genuine camaraderie with my teammates and have competed with them in the best way possible. I always try to make my team and myself better day.

FB: What is your favorite memory in soccer?

AE: The fight at Wendy’s and our first win of the season.

FB: What will you miss most about FMHS soccer?

AE: Playing with my teammates, especially my cousin Jorge and my brother Alejandro.

FB: Are there any words of wisdom you can say to future soccer players here at FMHS?

AE: If you want to become a better soccer player, listen to Ranger Joe. You always want to improve because if you think you're already perfect, then you never will be.

Thank you for your time, Alberto, and good luck in playoffs!
