On September 8th, Frazier Mountain played their second preseason game of the 2017 year against Valley Christian Academy! The Falcons prepared to face against the Lions at 7:00pm here at home, with the support from the school and community. The cheer squad welcomed the Falcons while the team enthusiastically ran onto the field ready to start the game.

The game began with #12, Lucas Flores, starting off with the kick-off, but the beginning of the first quarter was rough. The first part of the game is where the team had the most flaws, mainly weak in defense but also in offense. Gage Hayes, #1, told the Falcon Beat that the team did not do as well as he had hoped they would during the first half. The Lions scored 42 points in just the first quarter- but when #7 Daniel Meireles passed to #88 Juan Figueroa, the crowd excitedly screamed for him running to make the touchdown. The team scored their first touchdown of the game; they had a boost of adrenaline and dramatically improved their defense throughout the rest of the game. Although the Falcons did not score in the second quarter, the Lions only scored 13 points. The lack of points from the Falcons was a result of playing it safe and sloppy rather than being aggressive.
The second half was the falcons’ most successful part of the game. During halftime, head coach Roger Sumpter undoubtedly encouraged the boys and improved their spirits tremendously. Not only did their defense and offense improve, but statistically they played better than the lions in the second half altogether. In both the third and fourth quarter, the falcons scored a touchdown and went for 2 point conversion both times after the touchdowns they received. The lions only scored a touchdown in the third quarter with no extra points. In the second quarter, the falcons had 16 points and the lions only had 6. The final score 61-22.

Even though they had lost this game, the falcons played their best game in the second half - and continue to push to their greatest ability. They are fired up for rest of the season ahead of them and this is only the beginning. Their high spirits and hard work keep the games entertaining and fulfilling- and FMHS will continue to support our falcon football team! Go Falcons!
