The weather outside is frightful, but the spirits of the Frazier Mountain High School athletes are delightful. As volleyball, football and cross country have come to an end, many motivated student athletes transfer onto the winter sports season, which includes soccer and basketball.

Soccer has been known to have successful outcomes in the history of FMHS sports, while basketball has recently had brand new coaches for the boys’ teams. Varsity head coach Nicole Powell and Junior Varsity coach Suellen Brown are determined to lead their teams to victory this year. Long time Head Coach Bill Shillig has coached Varsity and values the learning experiences his girls gain during the season.

On November 30, boy’s Varsity and JV basketball, as well as girl’s and boy’s soccer teams, had their first preseason games.

Girl's Varsity Basketball

Basketball had successful first games against Valley Christian. Junior Team Captain Arpit Patel boasts about being confident about his team this season and that they will get far. Girl’s soccer won 8-0 against Mojave. Soccer Team Captain Brittany Wolfe is excited to help her fellow freshmen teammates learn. Boy’s soccer lost 2-0 on that first away game. Michael Stegeman, the captain of this team states that “our team is fresh and that first game was used to show where our new players are best fit to play.” Don’t lose hope in boy’s soccer, they will surely come out on top this season. The teams were excited to get their start, and Girl’s Varsity basketball got their chance to shine in the two day Desert Christian Tournament. They won their bracket on Saturday. Team Captain of girl’s Varsity Basketball Bianca Mechelin says she is excited to begin the season with a fresh and motivated team.
